The 2026 52 SUPER SERIES season got underway with an intense showcase of grand prix monohull racing at the Puerto Portals 52 SUPER SERIES Sailing Week, where a 14 TP52s and three new teams, a record fleet for the circuit so far, delivered a regatta of huge shifts, big scorelines, and a premium on consistency.
Three‑time world champions Platoon Aviation delivered a classic “from less to more” week. Early mixed results kept the German team in the pack, but as communication and race structure tightened, they climbed steadily into contention. Even a tough day of double penalties could not derail their push. A strong final day in heavy breeze secured them second overall, marking their best result since mid‑2025 and underlining their status as season‑long title contenders.
Among the rest of the leading group, Provezza and Alkedo Vitamina added drama to the narrative. Provezza set the early benchmark with flawless consistency, leading after four races and again on the eve of the final day thanks to a commanding race win from the pin and the left side of the course. However, a difficult final day in offshore breeze – including a costly 14th – dropped the Turkish‑flagged team to fourth overall. Alkedo Vitamina, meanwhile, produced one of the most spectacular single days of the week with back‑to‑back race wins, showcasing outstanding starting and pace, but their campaign was ultimately compromised by too many double‑digit results, leaving them fifth in the standings.

New Swedish project Trinity Racing added further depth to the record fleet with a brand‑new Botin‑designed TP52 built by King Marine, a crew built around America’s Cup–winning skipper and multiple 52 SUPER SERIES / TP52 world champion Ed Baird (with Alinghi), and a strong Swedish core, Trinity impressed immediately with a race win in their debut but saw their scoreline hit by technical issues and the inevitable learning moments of a first season. Their week in Puerto Portals confirmed both the performance potential of the new platform and the steep learning curve of racing in the most competitive TP52 environment in the world.
With 14 boats on the starting line and three new teams on the circuit, Puerto Portals confirmed once again why the Bay of Palma is considered one of the world’s reference racecourses for high‑end monohull racing. The message after this opener is clear: in the 2026 52 SUPER SERIES season, resilience, depth of crew work and the ability to manage big‑fleet traffic will be just as decisive as pure speed, as the circuit now moves on towards the Rolex TP52 World Championship in Porto Cervo.
