In the high-stakes world of Olympic sailing, few stories rival that of Santiago "Santi" Lange, Argentina's unyielding naval architect and seven-time Olympian, whose triumphs defy age, adversity, and the elements.

He etched his name in sailing history with a record three Snipe World Championships (1985, 1993, 1995), the 2004 Tornado World title, Olympic bronzes in Tornado at Athens 2004 and Beijing 2008, and a triumphant Nacra 17 gold at Rio 2016—his nation's first—clinched at age 54 just months after lung cancer surgery that removed 25% of one lung, earning him World Sailor of the Year before.

He returned for Tokyo 2020 (7th place), cementing his record as Argentina's most prolific Olympian across seven Games from 1988 to 2020.

The Value of a Team with Soul

In the highly demanding world of the 52 SUPER SERIES, where precision dictates every second, the essence of a team can ultimately define its destiny. Among the fleet’s faster hulls and sharper minds, Argentine Olympic gold medallist Santi Lange stands out as Provezza 9’s coach—a figure whose calm authority and depth of experience influence every movement on board.

“The most special thing about Provezza is its family spirit,” Lange says. “Ergin [Imre, the owner] puts friendship and the social side of the team first. He comes to the regattas with close friends who have been with the project since the beginning, and that creates a special atmosphere. You feel welcomed—it makes the experience truly enjoyable while being very competitive and having a huge ambition to win and reach our full potential”.

That approach has become a defining trait of Provezza: a crew that combines competitive ambition with an unmistakably human connection, staying among the top contenders in Grand Prix racing. "We are truly delighted with the boat's construction process and the quality of its build from king Marine"

High‑End Structure, Handcrafted Spirit

The current Provezza 9—a Judel/Vrolijk (2024) design—was built by King Marine. For Lange, that name carries a sense of continuity: “My previous TP, Azzurra, was also built by King Marine, and it shared the same philosophy — a close‑knit group built on trust, friendship, and attention to detail.”

Azzurra II: Four 52 Super Series glory

The TP52 Azzurra II, which  in late 2014, early 2015 at King Marine in Valencia, raced in the 52 SUPER SERIES circuit from 2015 to 2020, representing Yacht Club Costa Smeralda. Lange served as a tactician aboard in 2018-2019. Some of its best results in the 52 SUPER SERIES (chronological order) include:

  • 2015: World Champions and winners of the overall series (debut year)

  • 2017: Winners of the overall series

  • 2019: Winners of the overall series (Porto Cervo, Italy)

  • 2020: Winners of Cape Town Sailing Week (South Africa)

Lange's TP52 journey also includes key stints on Phoenix under Brazilian owner Eduardo Souza Ramos in 2014.

Connections That Define a Career

Lange’s link with King Marine traces back decades, to the early days of their development work in Argentina. “It goes back to the ’80s,” Lange recalls. “The same people who were working with passion then are still involved today. There’s a culture of teamwork at King Marine that we value deeply within Provezza.” “I partnered with Guille and Gabi Mariani, we started building Optimists together. I was there at the birth of King Marine, right from its foundation”

Looking ahead to the 2026 season, the team’s target is clear: to return to the podium and win. Yet for Lange, results are only part of the story. “What keeps me motivated are the people—the human side. Being surrounded by professionals who genuinely love what they do, whether in the shed or on the water, is what makes it all worthwhile and all, while we are very motivated to win”

As we look back on an extraordinary 2025 sailing season, the rapid rise of Django 7X stands out as a defining achievement, blending cutting-edge design, flawless execution, and world-class talent. It marked a new benchmark in Maxi yacht racing, with the Botin Partners-designed Wallyrocket 71 securing the Rolex IMA Maxi Grand Prix World Championship just months after hitting the water. Built by King Marine to exacting standards, the 21.4m LOA yacht—with a 5.55m beam, 4.9m draft, and 12.1t displacement—delivered record-breaking performance through rapid construction and flawless execution. From Launch to Victory Launched mid-season, Django 7X sailed straight to the top of the IMA standings in Porto Cervo, winning the World Championship in September on corrected time. Its 2.7t mobile water ballast system enabled superior speed and handling, outpacing established maxis in a debut campaign that redefined class expectations. King Marine's Valencia facility proved pivotal, turning ambitious design into a race-ready weapon in record time.

Guillermo Parada: Custom Excellence Defined

Argentine sailor Guillermo Parada, architect of four 52 SUPER SERIES world titles with Azzurra, also excelled as helmsman of early TP52 Matador and podium-contender Gladiator. A Lightning and Cadet World Champion, he secured runner-up at the 2025 J/70 World Championship with Nildo (2nd overall) and won multiple Soto 40 titles, while representing Argentina at the 1988 Olympics in the 470 class.

"The Wally rocket 71 built by King Marine , Django 7x could not have been completed without King Marine's help. It was done in very short times, and the result was impeccable: an absolute record holder, from May to September, and already winning the World Championship in its first year." - Parada said.

He also mentioned: “I've worked with King Marine since 2004, even before they came to Europe, and whenever I need to build a custom boat, my choice is to go with them.”"The shipyard delivered a perfect boat, and the optimizations we did there could not have been done anywhere else with that quality and in such little time.. They built Matador, Azzurra… Six TP52s, where I was directly involved in the boat supervision. With Django, we have the luck of an enthusiastic owner who decides quickly and forces us to stay updated and ready to meet the objectives of the season, and the support from King Marine's base is fundamental. I'm very happy to be part of a team like Django, so in-demand and dynamic."

Vasco Vascotto: Proven Track Record

Vasco Vascotto, elite tactician and multiple world champion across grand prix monohulls, brings unmatched insight to custom projects of this caliber:

"Every time I have the opportunity to do a custom project, and I'm asked for a trusted shipyard, my advice to owners is to build at King Marine. For years, they have proved with facts, not words, that their boats are built impeccably, on time, and ready to compete."

Vascotto continued, emphasizing the seamless collaboration that sets King Marine apart:

"Communication with them is easy and direct, which makes incredible things possible. My trust in them is 100%. With King Marine, you have the certainty that the boat will be as the designer thought, at the right weight and on schedule. That's everything you look for in a shipyard.

Reflecting on the Django 7X triumph and future ambitions, Vascotto concluded:

"In September, we won the World Championship: the first time a 70 hits the water mid-year and wins so soon, another record for King Marine. Django continues with ambitious projects, incorporating young talent with great enthusiasm. We will build with them again sooner than everyone thinks.
