In the high-stakes world of Olympic sailing, few stories rival that of Santiago "Santi" Lange, Argentina's unyielding naval architect and seven-time Olympian, whose triumphs defy age, adversity, and the elements.

He etched his name in sailing history with a record three Snipe World Championships (1985, 1993, 1995), the 2004 Tornado World title, Olympic bronzes in Tornado at Athens 2004 and Beijing 2008, and a triumphant Nacra 17 gold at Rio 2016—his nation's first—clinched at age 54 just months after lung cancer surgery that removed 25% of one lung, earning him World Sailor of the Year before.

He returned for Tokyo 2020 (7th place), cementing his record as Argentina's most prolific Olympian across seven Games from 1988 to 2020.

The Value of a Team with Soul

In the highly demanding world of the 52 SUPER SERIES, where precision dictates every second, the essence of a team can ultimately define its destiny. Among the fleet’s faster hulls and sharper minds, Argentine Olympic gold medallist Santi Lange stands out as Provezza 9’s coach—a figure whose calm authority and depth of experience influence every movement on board.

“The most special thing about Provezza is its family spirit,” Lange says. “Ergin [Imre, the owner] puts friendship and the social side of the team first. He comes to the regattas with close friends who have been with the project since the beginning, and that creates a special atmosphere. You feel welcomed—it makes the experience truly enjoyable while being very competitive and having a huge ambition to win and reach our full potential”.

That approach has become a defining trait of Provezza: a crew that combines competitive ambition with an unmistakably human connection, staying among the top contenders in Grand Prix racing. "We are truly delighted with the boat's construction process and the quality of its build from king Marine"

High‑End Structure, Handcrafted Spirit

The current Provezza 9—a Judel/Vrolijk (2024) design—was built by King Marine. For Lange, that name carries a sense of continuity: “My previous TP, Azzurra, was also built by King Marine, and it shared the same philosophy — a close‑knit group built on trust, friendship, and attention to detail.”

Azzurra II: Four 52 Super Series glory

The TP52 Azzurra II, which  in late 2014, early 2015 at King Marine in Valencia, raced in the 52 SUPER SERIES circuit from 2015 to 2020, representing Yacht Club Costa Smeralda. Lange served as a tactician aboard in 2018-2019. Some of its best results in the 52 SUPER SERIES (chronological order) include:

  • 2015: World Champions and winners of the overall series (debut year)

  • 2017: Winners of the overall series

  • 2019: Winners of the overall series (Porto Cervo, Italy)

  • 2020: Winners of Cape Town Sailing Week (South Africa)

Lange's TP52 journey also includes key stints on Phoenix under Brazilian owner Eduardo Souza Ramos in 2014.

Connections That Define a Career

Lange’s link with King Marine traces back decades, to the early days of their development work in Argentina. “It goes back to the ’80s,” Lange recalls. “The same people who were working with passion then are still involved today. There’s a culture of teamwork at King Marine that we value deeply within Provezza.” “I partnered with Guille and Gabi Mariani, we started building Optimists together. I was there at the birth of King Marine, right from its foundation”

Looking ahead to the 2026 season, the team’s target is clear: to return to the podium and win. Yet for Lange, results are only part of the story. “What keeps me motivated are the people—the human side. Being surrounded by professionals who genuinely love what they do, whether in the shed or on the water, is what makes it all worthwhile and all, while we are very motivated to win”
